A little about the inventor of The Deflector Rudder.
Lowell has been designing building and operating fishing boats for over 35 years. He has designed and built 50 + vessels. Years of experience fishing and passage-making between the Bering Sea and the Columbia River have given Lowell the experience to design and build rugged, quality, effective craft that will withstand years of hard commercial use. He continues to provide consultation and design work for business and owners wishing to improve performance of their boats by adding bulbous bows, engines sponsors, particularly rudders and steering systems. His innovative designs have pioneered many notable features, including the reverse (gullwing) chine and propeller tunnels in high-speed vessels. He experimented on his own boats to perfect the design and construction of his high-lift DEFLECTOR MARINE RUDDERS. He guarantees that any boat, from a Bering Sea crabber to a mega-yacht, will perform significantly better with a DEFLECTOR MARINE RUDDER. His motto; A MACHINE THAT TRACKS AND TURNS WELL IS A PLEASURE TO OPERATE! You are invited to modernize with us.
Kirk was born in Vancouver B.C. Canada and started working in the marine industry at age 18, Kirk trained to be a fabrication welder/fitter. Kirk has over 30 years experience in the marine industry custom engineering work for commercial vessels of all kinds, including tugs, fish boats. As well, Kirk worked in the construction of B.C ferries. He built one of the first experimental stainless steel kort nozzles at W.A Thom Ltd. in 1976 in North Vancouver B.C. Kirk has extensive knowledge of marine construction, engine installation and related mechanical systems. He has spent the past 15years specializing in custom refit and construction of power yachts 50’ to 160’ long at various boatyards in Vancouver and Sidney B.C. Most recently, he has been specializing and working in sales and marketing. His first experience of an articulating flap rudder was in February 2002. While refitting private yachts at a Canadian boatyard in Sidney B.C. he installed a Deflector Marine Rudder on a 62 foot Norhaven and was immediately impressed by the enormous improvement in the vessel’s handling characteristics. Kirk contacted Lowell Stambaugh and went to visit Lowell at his home in Naselle Washington . Lowell accepted Kirk's offer and is now the Canadian representative for the Deflector Marine Rudder. Since then, Kirk has teamed up with Lowell at Boat shows in the winters and continued to market and promote the (DMR) high-lift rudder concept and its advantage for all boat owners. Kirk is very involved with Lowell in designing and engineering of DMR rudders. When not involved in marine projects, Kirk's hobby is classic cars and his passion for his Harley Custom Road King.
